Dog Vaccinations

Give your dog lifelong protection from common illnesses.

Dog Vaccinations

From playful puppies to loyal older dogs, vaccinations are one of the most important steps you can take to keep your four-legged friend healthy.

While not all dog vaccinations are a legal requirement in the UK, they are strongly recommended to protect against a number of potentially life-threatening diseases.

Whether you’re welcoming a new pup or need a booster vaccine for dogs, we’re here to help every step of the way.

Why dog vaccinations matter

Vaccinating your dog helps protect not just them, but also other dogs and pets in your community.

Even if your dog doesn’t mix with many others, diseases like parvovirus and leptospirosis can still be picked up from the environment.

A complete dog vaccination schedule begins in puppyhood and continues with annual dog vaccines to maintain strong immunity throughout their life.

As well as a vaccination, an annual health check with a veterinary surgeon is important to pick up and monitor for diseases.

Do you need to vaccinate older dogs?

Yes, yearly dog vaccines continue to be beneficial into old age.

What vaccinations do dogs need?

At Beehive Vets, we recommend a tailored programme based on your dog’s age, lifestyle, and exposure risk.

Our core dog vaccines protect against:

  • Parvovirus – a serious and often fatal illness, especially in puppies
  • Distemper – a serious viral disease that can be fatal or lead to brain damage
  • Hepatitis – a serious viral disease that can cause liver failure
  • Leptospirosis – a bacterial infection, particularly common in rural or wet environments
  • Rabies – essential for travel abroad
  • Kennel cough – highly contagious, especially in social or kennel settings
  • Flea protection – while not a vaccine, it’s an essential part of your dog’s health plan

Not sure if vaccines are right for your dog? Ask us about titre testing for dogs — a blood test that checks existing immunity levels, helping guide whether a booster is needed. Initial vaccinations are still required for this as well as an annual leptospirosis vaccination which cannot be titre tested for.

Dog vaccination schedule

A typical dog vaccination schedule includes:

  • 6–8 weeks – First puppy vaccination
  • 10-12 weeks – Second puppy vaccination
  • Annual boosters – Leptospirosis is given annually and the viral components are typically given every 3 years after the first annual booster.

Wondering “How long can you leave between dog vaccinations?” or missed a booster? Don’t worry — we can help you get back on track safely.

How much are dog vaccinations?

We understand that value matters. We offer competitive pricing on all dog vaccines, and provide clear information with no hidden costs.

Puppy packages and health plans are also available to help spread the cost of essential care.

The price of all vaccinations and routine procedures are published on our website.

Are dog vaccines safe?

Yes — vaccines are thoroughly tested and widely used to protect millions of dogs worldwide. That said, like any medical treatment, mild side effects are possible. These might include:

  • Tiredness or a low-grade fever
  • Soreness at the injection site
  • In extremely rare circumstances, an adverse reaction can occur with any vaccine or drug — we’re always here to advise and support

How long do vaccines last?

  • Distemper, hepatitis and parvovirus – After a booster at 1 year, this is subsequently given every 3 years
  • Rabies vaccine for dogs – If given in the UK, rabies has a 3 year license. The license can be reduced to a year if given abroad
  • Leptospirosis vaccine for dogs – Yearly
  • Kennel Cough – Yearly

We’ll keep track of your dog’s vaccination due dates and send helpful reminders so you never miss a top-up.
